What we measure and how

Per-frame banding score derived from second-derivative analysis of smooth-region luma gradients. High scores suggest 8-bit colour quantisation banding (typically gradient skies, dim scenes). Reports the file's mean score vs `banding_max_score`. Check key in code: `video_colour_banding`; metric function is `metric_banding`.
