Video active region shift

Active picture region centring

What we measure and how

Active picture region centring catches off-centre letterboxing or pillarboxing — common when a 16:9 master is misframed inside a 4:3 container or vice versa, or when the active picture is itself decentred relative to its black borders. A bounding-box detector samples frames across the programme, finds the active picture region (the rectangle of non-black/non-static borders), and compares its detected centre against the geometric centre of the frame. Shifts exceeding `active_region.max_shift_px` from the spec flag the check.
