What we measure and how

Detects the subtitle file's text encoding (UTF-8, UTF-16, ISO-8859-1, Windows-1252). Files declared as UTF-8 with non-UTF-8 byte sequences fail the check. The spec may also require a specific encoding (typically UTF-8 with BOM stripped).
