Integrated programme loudness, EBU R128 / ITU-R BS.1770-4
What we measure and how
Integrated programme loudness measures the long-term loudness of the programme on a perceptually weighted scale (channel-summed K-weighted), the metric broadcasters and streamers use to normalise levels across programmes and genres. Measured per ITU-R BS.1770-4 with the EBU R128 gating block: 400 ms momentary loudness blocks, an absolute gate at -70 LUFS, and a relative gate at -10 LU below the ungated mean. Reported in LUFS. Integrated loudness is gated to the programme (SQC-1129): when the spec defines a colour-bars head/tail, those test-signal regions are excluded from the integration window via a second ebur128 pass, so a line-up tone does not pull the figure. Momentary, true-peak and LRA remain whole-file.
