Method
Black frames
Black-frame intervals (full-file scan)
What we measure and how
Black-frame intervals are passages where the entire frame is uniformly black for long enough that the viewer registers a programme dropout rather than an intentional cut. Each frame is scored by the fraction of pixels below a luminance threshold (10 % of full scale), and intervals of two seconds or longer where every frame exceeds that threshold are reported as (start, end, duration). Caller threshold is the maximum allowed black-frame duration anywhere in the programme.
