Loudness range (LRA), EBU R128
What we measure and how
Loudness range (LRA) quantifies the macroscopic dynamic range of a programme — how far the loud passages are from the quiet ones, on the same perceptually weighted scale as integrated loudness. Measured per EBU Tech 3342 as the difference between the 10th and 95th percentiles of the gated short-term loudness distribution, where short-term loudness is a 3-second sliding window per ITU-R BS.1770-4 and the gating discards both absolute (below -70 LUFS) and relative (below -20 LU from the ungated mean) measurement blocks. Reported in LU over the full programme.
